National landmarks and monuments are arguably the most sensitive structures to work with. They are highly visible and treasured by generations of citizens from all walks of life. Cases in point are the National Immigration Museum on Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, both located by New York Harbor. Computrols hardware and software were chosen for the fire control system on both these historic facilities. As part of the National Park Service, it was of the highest importance that this system possess unmatched quality and ease of use. The CSimon Fire Protection System from Computrols has exceeded expectations.
Home Screen - The Statue of Liberty
Nearby Liberty Island is home to the most recognizable American landmark. Helping protect it gives Computrols a unique sense of pride. From the home page, the statue and its base is dissected into regions by color. Each region also contains specific floor sections. Users can navigate to any section quickly by clicking a section of the illustration.
Floor View - Lower Statue Sections
Due to the relatively small size of the statue's cross-sections, four can be presented at once. This gives the user a distinct advantage as excessive navigation is eliminated. Much like a surveillance camera, four areas are monitored at once. The standard navigation area remains available on the left side of the screen.
Home Screen - Ellis Island
The opening screen in this CSimon Fire Protection System shows the actual grouping of buildings being monitored on Ellis Island. These four buildings are renovated and in use, therefore, they required a proven fire control system to ensure worker and public safety. From the home screen a user can navigate to any of the four buildings.
Floor Screen - Main Building, Floor 1, West
Users can navigate quickly between each building (links at bottom), each floor of the currently viewed building (links at top left), or sections of each floor (fly-out links at top left). These multiple navigation options also make it very clear where the user is currently viewing and what relation that has to other floors or buildings. The building silhouette with green highlight on the bottom left shows the specific portion of the building being viewed. Due to the size of the Main Building, showing it in three sections per floor made it easier to view the many fire system devices in play. The legend of icons on the bottom right reminds the user what each device represents. When a device changes color to yellow or red, the user knows immediately the status of the device.
