Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or 2

There is a Windows update that changes the Daylight Saving Time and you will not have to do anything but run Windows Update or download here and follow the directions. If you do not have an Internet connection you will need to call Computrols and schedule a technician or download it on another computer and transfer it.

Windows XP without a Service Pack

There are two options: Upgrade to Service Pack 2 or disable Automatic Daylight Saving Changes in your Date and Time Properties window. This window can be accessed by double-clicking on the clock in the bottom right-hand corner of your Windows task bar. The time will require a manual change every year in March and November when DST is scheduled to begin or end.

Windows 2000

There is an application that allows users to change the DST on their computers/servers, tzedit.exe. Click here to download the application. Download to the My Documents folder. Double click the tzedit.exe and follow the directions on this page.

  1. Select the time zone where your building is located.
  2. Click Edit.

  1. Select "Second" from the drop down menu
  2. Select "Sunday" from the drop down menu
  3. Select "March" from the drop down menu
  4. Select "First" from the drop down menu
  5. Select "Sunday" from the drop down menu
  6. Select "November" from the drop down menu
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Close on next window.

Windows 95 and 98

Microsoft is not supporting a fix for this older operating system. The only solution for Windows 95 or 98 is to turn off Automatic Daylight Saving Changes and manually change the time at the beginning and end dates of DST. Microsoft may eventually come out with patches for these operating systems, we will keep you updated with their releases.

DOS-Based Systems

Technicians or engineers with DOS-based systems will need to make sure they change the time every year at the new time.
